The Zambian government says it is on course to meet the June 2015 digital migration deadline as laid down by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
Permanent secretary in the ministry of Information and Broadcasting services Chanda Kasolo said the Zambian government has put in place measures and a policy which is working towards beating the digital migration deadline.
He said the country failed to beat the Southern Arican Development Community (SADC) 2013 deadline because the government had to re-advertise the tender for digital migration.
The Zambian government has awarded the tender for digital migration to China's Star Software Technologies Company.
The contract, valued at $9, 554, 124, is for the supply, delivery, installation and commissioning of phase one of the country's national digital terrestrial broadcasting.
According to the Zambian government schedule, phase two of the project is planned to run from this year to January 2015 while phase three of the project will be implemented in 2015 in line with the ITU deadline and will include the installation of transmission sites around the country.
Zambia launched its digital migration policy this year after it was approved by cabinet.
