The Zambian government has revealed that it spent about $40,000 in coming up with a digital migration policy that was launched in June this year.

Deputy minister of information and broadcasting Poniso Njeulu said the money was spent in the process of drafting and launching the policy that aims to guide the country’s migration to digital broadcasting.

He said the Zambian government is committed to ensuring that the country meets the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) migration deadline for June 2015.

Njeulu said the money was spent on allowances for the country’s task force on digital migration, drafting and launching of the policy.

Last week, Zambia awarded the first phase of its digital migration to Star Software Technologies Company of China. However, the Zambian government has not said which company will implement the second and third phases of the project.

“This money was spent on drafting and launching the digital migration policy. Government is confident that Zambia will successfully migrate to digital before the deadline next year,” Njeulu said.
