Measures are being put in place to ensure Zambia's set top boxes (STBs) are of the highest quality ahead of the country's digital migration.

Zambia is in the process of importing STBs as the country prepares to migrate to digital broadcasting and meet a June 2015 deadline set by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

Zambia's Minister of Communications and Transport, Yamfwa Mukanga, has said the country has put in place measures to ensure no substandard ICT equipment is imported into the country

He said the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) and

the Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) have partnered in the development of standards in the telecommunication sector.

Some of the measures include the testing of STBs by ZABS for certification before they are offloaded in the market.

"The Zambian government is determined to ensure that digital migration products imported on to the Zambian telecommunication market are of good quality and safe for use," Mukanga said.
