Arbor Networks adds new security layer for West Africa

Massachusetts-based software company, Arbor Networks, has become the latest entrant into West Africa's tech ecosystem and is partnering with Lagos-based Layer3 to provide clients in the region with protection against threats, especially Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.

Both companies said the move became necessary following increase in the number of DDoS attacks, in addition to cybersecurity breaches in the region.

Referencing the Akamai State of Security report released last year, the partners said in 2015 20% of organisations reported attacks of various magnitudes and it added that there was 148.55% increase in total DDoS attacks between 2014 and the last quarter in 2015.

In Nigeria, Arbor Networks said those at high risk include large organisations, service providers and data centers hosting web servers and other critical assets.

"As a specialist integrator of next-generation network and security solutions, we are always looking for ways to keep our customers out of the security breach headlines by providing them with the threat prevention solutions, visibility and reporting they need to achieve faster resolutions across their nation and even global networks," said Oyaje Idoko, Chief Executive Officer of Layer3.

Bryan Hamman, Territory Manager sub-Saharan Africa for Arbor Networks, said the company is strongly focused on innovation, network security and quality. "Arbor also vigorously dedicates itself to these aspects, and is therefore eminently positioned to bring these solutions to the market. We are looking forward to a successful and fruitful collaboration with Layer3 as our new partner."

He added that Layer3 will be contributing its knowledge of world-class technology solutions to the partnership with Arbor Networks to design, implement and support their clients' security transformation ambition and reduce cybercrime in the region.
