Namibia has engaged multinational professional services firm Deloitte & Touche to spearhead the country's artificial intelligence (AI) strategy framework and broader digital ecosystem.
Discussions this week focused on trustworthy AI, broadband access, cybersecurity, data centres, AI factories, clean energy solutions, and women in technology, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology disclosed.
Consultations on Namibia's AI strategy framework have already commenced under the leadership of the National Commission on Research, Science and Technology, said Emma Theofelus, minister of information and communication technology.
She said: "Government has prioritised the development of a national strategy before introducing legislation, with the aim of establishing clear guiding principles that will support responsible AI development and governance as technology continues to evolve."
The engagement followed high-level talks in Windhoek between minister Theofelus and a Deloitte & Touche Namibia delegation led by Melanie Harrison, country leader.
The Ministry said Deloitte shared insights drawn from its global AI policy advisory frameworks while advising on data centres and telecommunications.
Policy and legislation must evolve alongside technological developments, said Harrison.
She added that Deloitte is committed to supporting Namibia's efforts to strengthen its artificial intelligence policy and legislative landscape.
