Kenya yesterday signed a series of agreements with German organisations to advance digital skills development, outsourcing and open-source technology collaboration.

The agreements were signed at the Kenya-Germany Business Day in Berlin, ahead of Government-to-Government negotiations on development cooperation, which continue until Friday.

The deals aim to expand digital talent development, create employment opportunities and strengthen Kenya's position as a regional technology and outsourcing hub.

GetINNOtized GmbH and DEG Impulse, with support from the Ministry of ICT and the Digital Economy, launched a digital training and job-placement platform to equip Kenyan youth with in-demand skills in cloud computing, data and artificial intelligence, and connect them to global employment opportunities.

GIZ Kenya and Gevekom GmbH signed an agreement to advance Kenya's global business services and business process outsourcing sector, positioning the country as a preferred destination for digital outsourcing, investment and high-quality digital jobs.

GIZ Kenya and the Open Source Business Alliance entered into a partnership to strengthen digital talent development, open-source technologies, innovation ecosystems and digital sovereignty.

Other agreements were signed in the areas of climate-smart agriculture, energy and e-mobility.

John Tanui, principal secretary for Kenya's State Department for ICT and the Digital Economy, said the agreements reflect a shared commitment by Kenyan and German institutions to advance digital transformation, green industrialisation, climate resilience, skills development and innovation-led growth.

"More importantly, they align with Kenya's Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda and the Digital Superhighway Programme by creating pathways for investment, technology transfer, job creation and sustainable economic competitiveness," Tanui said.

A Kenyan delegation led by Chris Kiptoo, principal secretary for the National Treasury, is in Germany engaging counterparts on priority areas, including digital and technology exchange.

Kiptoo welcomed continued growth in trade between the two countries, with Kenya's exports to Germany increasing from US$203 million in 2021 to US$352 million in 2025.

"With over 120 German companies already operating in Kenya and a growing number using the country as their base for Sub-Saharan Africa, the strong German corporate presence underscores Kenya's importance as a gateway to regional and continental markets," Kiptoo said.
