Equinix today announced plans to establish a new data centre in Nigeria.

LG3 will be Equinix's third data facility in Lagos. It is the first step of an ambitious $100 million investment plan to reshape the continent's digital landscape over the next two years, according to the company.

The company first entered the region through the acquisition of MainOne, who developed LG1 and LG2 facilities, and had operations in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. LG3 is set to operate in the first quarter of 2026.

According to the firm, the site will support global connectivity to West Africa with Equinix Fabric, delivering crucial new infrastructure to Nigeria, empowering local businesses to scale, while drawing international companies to the nation in a strategically positioned hub for global connectivity.

Furthermore, the addition of the new LG3 data centre in the country brings the incorporation of Equinix Fabric into the metro, enabling businesses to securely connect their physical and virtual infrastructure to cloud service providers, partners, and other companies to more Equinix locations across the world.

Wole Abu, managing director for West Africa at Equinix, commented: “LG3 marks a significant milestone in Equinix’s long-term commitment to bridging Africa’s digital divide. As Lagos emerges at the crossroads of talent, innovation, and global connectivity, this facility is accelerating access to technologies like cloud, artificial intelligence, and the next wave of start-ups.”
