Zambia’s Unity Finance, in collaboration with the United Bank for Africa, has developed and launched an electronic visa prepaid card dubbed 'Unicard' that could be utilised for everyday electronic financial transactions.

According to reports, the card has the potential to increase the number of ordinary people accessing financial services both in rural and urban areas of the country.

Both customers of Unity Finance and the general public would have access to the Visa Electron network, which operates in more than 150 countries with a network of more than 27 million outlets.

Unity Finance marketing director Gabriel Chansa, said the card could go a long way in reducing inherent risks associated with moving large sums of money to execute business transactions within Zambia and outside the country.

“The card can be used in everyday electronic financial transactions such as point of sale purchases, ATM cash withdraws, and online purchasing and card to card money transfer by the card holders,” Chansa said.

Chansa also said as a result of the launch of the card, Unity Finance was committed to ensuring that it offers innovative solutions to its customers in the provisions of financial services.
