Kenya is aligning its ICT landscape with global trends; the last major reforms took place 26 years ago.

The Sector Working Group (SWG) yesterday submitted the crucial report to the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy on policy and legislative reforms to bring Kenya's ICT landscape in line with global norms.

According to John Tanui, principal secretary: State Department for ICT and Digital Economy, the report's primary recommendations in key theme areas will boost innovation, talent development, cyber security, and digital infrastructure.

“Given the dynamic and rapidly evolving nature of ICT, it is clear that change is needed,” Tanui said.

The ministry has thus introduced new ICT directorates to address sector demands.

The government of President William Ruto is also to establish a Continental Centre of Excellence to upskill public service professionals.

Margaret Ndung’u, cabinet secretary, Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy received the SWG report on Monday.

The SWG was constituted in September last year to examine the existing policy, legislative, institutional, administrative and operational structures, systems and strategies.
