Tonny Tugee to leave Seacom
Seacom’s Regional Managing Director for East and North East Africa, Tonny Tugee, has resigned.
The company issued a statement late yesterday confirming the development, but offered little detail as to why Tugee had resigned and what his plans are going forward.
Seacom said Tugee joined the company from Safaricom in 2017 as Head of Sales and was later appointed to the position of Regional Managing Director.
It added: “During his tenure with Seacom, Mr Tugee has been instrumental in steering Seacom’s growth in East Africa, which remains one of the organisation’s key markets. By leading a team of experienced ICT professionals, the regional team in Kenya has delivered high quality and affordable Internet bandwidth into dynamic and ever-expanding markets.
“Seacom is poised to continue building on this success to further cement its position in the region.”
Steve Briggs, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer (CSMO) at Seacom Group, thanked Tugee on behalf of the Group and its shareholders, and wished him well in his future endeavours. “Tonny has been a valuable part of our business, driving growth and expansion in the East Africa region. His efforts have supported Seacom's purpose of connecting Africa to the world.”
Tugee stated, “I am sincerely grateful to Seacom staff and customers for the past few years in which we increased access to broadband Internet in Africa. We have a way to go in narrowing the digital divide on the continent, and Seacom remains a critical player in bridging this divide. I am truly grateful to have been a part of an organisation that enables more and more citizens to participate in the digital economy.”
