Huawei has committed to help the Kenyan government to fight cyber-security threats.

Huawei has pledged to deepen its partnership with the Kenyan government to boost cyber security in the East African country.

The technology company officials announced the plans at the Cybersecurity Bootcamp Award Ceremony in Nairobi, which was organised by Huawei and Kenya's Communications Authority (CA).

The event on Wednesday was meant to recognise emerging talent in cybersecurity.

According to Steven Zhang, deputy chief executive officer of Huawei Kenya" "We will continue to provide a secure solution for customers in Kenya that will keep the country secure, as well as further cyber security training for the government, industry experts, students, and other Kenyan citizens."

He stated that the Chinese technology company had built strong relationships with the Kenyan government and other players, including CA, over the previous 25 years of operation.

“We have earned the trust of the government, our partners, and customers in the communications sector, private sector and individuals," Zhang said.

David Mugonyi, Kenya’s CA director general, also attended the award ceremony.

“The Communications Authority of Kenya remains committed to fostering a secure digital space through capacity building, policy development and collaboration with industry stakeholders,” Mugonyi said.

The move comes after Huawei signed a letter of intent in 2022 to train 20,000 public sector employees in cyber security, IT risk management, legislation, policies, and standards.

Last year, the government also worked with Huawei to train state officers on cloud computing security.
