Huawei Nigeria opened a new innovation centre in Lagos this week to assist the country speed its digital transformation.

The centre was unveiled at Huawei Day Nigeria 2025, a three-day event titled "Accelerating Industrial Intelligence."

The event was attended by key figures including Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani; Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat (representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu); and Huawei executives.

Huawei Nigeria's CEO, Chris Lu, described the innovation centre as a dynamic platform where customers, partners, and ICT talent may explore the latest technologies, discuss global best practices, and collaborate on tailored solutions across key industries.

Lu commented: "We have been honoured to develop in Nigeria since 1999, collaborating with industry leaders and partners to build a solid foundation of digital infrastructure.

"The Huawei Day Nigeria 2025 event usher in a new era for Huawei in Nigeria and artificial intelligence. AI is not a technology of the future; it is now."

Tijani welcomed the opening of the centre, saying it is a catalyst for Nigeria's tech sovereignty that it will promote local co-creation above technology consumption.

Hamza welcomed Huawei's contributions to the state's ICT ecosystem, particularly in terms of data sovereignty achieved through localised cloud solutions.

"Huawei has not only delivered on its great ambition of 25 years ago when it entered the Nigerian market but has also become an indispensable partner that is significantly contributing to the robustness of Lagos' ICT ecosystem."
