PAIX Data Centres has increased its capacity in Ghana to 1.2 MW to assist in meeting increasing demand for access to digital infrastructure.

According to PAIX, the Ghana data centre is now one of Ghana's largest, and it will improve access for internet service providers, cloud providers, and entrepreneurs to the digital infrastructure and increased connectivity necessary for online businesses to grow.

The expansion comes at a critical time, as demand for dependable and scalable data centres in Africa is likely to outstrip supply by 300% over the next two years, the business said.

According to PAIX, the existing installed capacity of 250 MW would need to be greatly enhanced to fulfil the rapidly expanding demand for data, with consumption predicted to rise by 40% annually until 2025.

The company said the upgraded facility includes enhanced cooling and waste management technologies, as well as increased integration of renewable energy as a power source, to improve environmental effect.

PAIX stated that its strategic location in Accra provides low latency connectivity to all key regional and international network routes and subsea cables, hence improving the overall efficiency and performance of its services.

Africa50, an infrastructure investor and asset management firm, committed $20 million in equity investment to PAIX Data Centres in 2022 to help the company expand into new markets and update existing facilities.

Bright Tawiah, managing director, PAIX Data Centres, Ghana, said: “As one of Africa’s digital economy hotspots, Accra plays a vital role in driving innovation and growth across various industries.”

Alexander Sulzberger, co-founder and CTO, Ecoband Networks, added: “This reliability provides Ecoband and our international carrier partners hosted in Accra with a solid foundation for our ISP operations.”
