Multichoice unveils GOtv in Livingstone

MultiChoice Africa has launched GOtv, a digital terrestrial transmission (DTT) service, in Zambia, as the company expands its services across Africa.

Zambia’s capital tourist city, Livingstone, becomes the fourth city in the country to have the entertainment digital channel after Lusaka, Ndola and Kitwe.

MultiChoice Zambia chief executive officer, Simon Bota, said GOtv is the only digital pay TV service in Africa that uses the Digital Video Broadcasting-Second Generation Terrestrial (DVB-T2) technology.

“We are committed to Africa and we want to make digital television more affordable. Digital migration is not only about quality pictures but also access to information and quality sound,” Bota said.

He also said GOtv has a total of 19 channels, which subscribers can watch at a monthly subscription of only $7.

Ministry of Information and Broadcasting permanent secretary Amos Malupenga said, “We are happy to be among the first countries on the continent to start migrating and testing the sweetness of digital television using the most advanced digital standard-DVB-T2.”
