SEACOM to deploy Infinera's network in Africa

Africa's broadband provider SEACOM plans to deploy Infinera's DTN-X platform across its terrestrial network to offer higher internet speed services to the African continent.

Infinera is the provider of Intelligent Transport Networks that helps carriers exploit the increasing demand for cloud-based services and data centre connectivity, a statement reveals.

According to the statement SEACOM's move to deploy the network platform would enable the internet provider to differentiate its services and manage costs as it scales network capabilities.

"The need for bandwidth in Africa is growing substantially and SEACOM's network is ready to address this increase in demand for our customers," said Claes Segelberg, chief technical officer at SEACOM.

Segelberg added, "The Infinera Intelligent Transport Network enables SEACOM to offer 100 gigabit per second (Gb/s) services and provides us with the ability to offer higher speed services to accommodate existing customers and attract new customers."

Also commenting was Chris Champion, senior vice president, EMEA sales at Infinera who said, "SEACOM's deployment of an Infinera Intelligent Transport Network solution substantially increases the capacity available for internet and global communications services as the company addresses the growing need for bandwidth in Africa."
