Zambia's tourists' capital Livingstone and the Copperbelt province will next month migrate to digital broadcasting ahead of the 2015 deadline set by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

So far the country has only managed to migrate the capital Lusaka as the first step towards nationwide migration before the deadline.

But the national broadcaster, the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) has confirmed Livingstone and the Copperbelt will migrate next month.

ZNBC public relations manager Masuzyo Ndlovu said China's Star Software Technologies is migrating the two regions. "Star Software Technologies is already on the ground to make sure that the two towns migrate successfully."

The contract given to Star Software Technologies is valued at $9, 554, 124 and is for the supply, delivery, installation and Commissioning of phase one of the national digital terrestrial broadcasting in Zambia.

But with less than five months remaining before the migration deadline, the Zambian government has still not said which company will implement the second and third phases of the project and how much it will cost the country.
