Ethiopia to host African Internet Governance Forum

The outcomes will support Africa’s contributions to the upcoming 19th Global Internet Governance Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in December 2024.

The African Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF) Secretariat, in partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and Ethiopia's Ministry of Innovation and Technology, will host the 13th Africa Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF) in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa.

The event will be held at the United Nations Conference Center on November 20-22, 2024, with a theme of "Building Our Multi-Stakeholder Digital Future for Africa."

According to the ECA, the meeting will discuss internet governance challenges in Africa.

The AfIGF will address current challenges as well as opportunities in digital governance, including a wide range of themes such as cybersecurity, data governance, digital rights, sustainability, and new technologies such as artificial intelligence.

The outcomes will support Africa’s contributions to the upcoming 19th Global Internet Governance Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in December 2024.

“The 13th AfIGF aims to facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogue on the ethical, policy, and operational dimensions of Africa’s Internet and digital governance landscape, support alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, the African Union Agenda 2063 the Global Digital Compact, and the Africa WSIS+20 Review process,” said the ECA in a statement.

It added: “Strengthen Africa’s digital ecosystem through sustainable, secure, and inclusive digital policies that protect digital rights and support meaningful connectivity.”
