Kuchera announced this week a new deal with SANY South Africa.

Kuchera GmbH, a German tech start-up that specialises in optimising haulage operating efficiency in mining, is expanding into Africa after signing two deals in South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Last week, the start-up entered into a partnership agreement with R. Davis &Co, a Zimbabwean civil engineering firm that specialises in contract mining, plant, and machine hire. The company is contracted at the Eureka and Freda Rebecca gold mine.

Kuchera announced this week a new deal with SANY South Africa, which operates in four industry verticals: excavators, heavy equipment, concrete machinery, and renewable energy.

According to Kuchera, it wants to transform the mining business with its IoT platform, teamUp, which the company says combines augmented artificial intelligence and human knowledge for mining success.

To deal with connectivity issues at mines, the company says it integrated ORBCOMM’s dual-mode satellite and cellular technology into its teamUp platform.

Christian Hugger, co-founder and chief product and technology officer at Kuchera, comments: “The feedback we receive from our customers is that teamUp’s real-time data and performance tracking help them make more informed decisions, leading to reduced downtime, lower fuel consumption, and better overall utilisation of assets.”

Hugger asserts that the integration of IoT data, satellite connectivity, and performance management is transforming mining operations globally.

Kuchera CEO Mxolisi Sibiya sees opportunity for the company to expand across Africa following its two agreements in South Africa and Zimbabwe.

“We can provide our customers with valuable insights that directly impact the profitability and sustainability of their operations,” says Sibiya. “These collaborations are a key step in improving operational efficiency across the Southern African mining sector.”
