FTTH network launched in Zambia
Zambia's CEC Liquid Telecom says it plans to connect some 20,000 homes and businesses to fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service in the country's capital city Lusaka by the end of this year.
The FTTH service was launched in Zambia on Tuesday by the company while promising superfast broadband speeds to subscribers.
The Zambian arm of Liquid Telecom is a joint venture with the Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC), a Zambian power generation, transmission and distribution company.
According to the company it is planning to first connect 8,000 homes and businesses and later more than double the number to 20,000 premises before the end of this year.
Company managing director Andrew Kapula said the service would provide speeds of up to 100Mbps, allowing homes and businesses of all sizes to access superfast broadband with unlimited data package.
Kapula explained that the launch of FTTH in Zambia follows an initial pilot project last year that received extremely positive feedback from customers who were impressed with both the speed and reliability.
"This is a major milestone in the development of Zambia's telecom infrastructure. We believe in the power of connectivity to change lives and will continue to invest in building a high-quality network which will enable people and businesses to prosper," he said.
Last month, the company announced a $5 million investment in building a fibre link between Lusaka and Victoria Falls in Livingstone to provide both retail and wholesale customers with broadband connectivity in the southern African country.
