John Tanui, Kenya's principal secretary for information and communications technology and the digital economy, met with a Malaysian delegation last night.

Kenya and Malaysia plan to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to drive digital transformation in the East African country and across the continent.

This would be the highlight of the Malaysia-Kenya Tech event, which started today.

Kenya's principal secretary for information and communications technology and the digital economy, John Tanui, met with a Malaysian group ahead of the summit.

Ruzaimi Mohamad, Malaysia's High Commissioner to Kenya, led the group from the Southeast Asian country.

The group also includes Wan Murdani Mohamad, vice president of the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation.

“Both countries look forward to signing an MoU to accelerate digital transformation in Kenya and across Africa,” Tanui said.

“The Malaysia business mission is a significant step towards bilateral trade, fostering collaboration and exploring new digital export opportunities between Malaysia and Kenya.”

The Malaysian delegation visited the Konza Technopolis and Equity Bank.

The Kenyan government, Malaysia's High Commission in Kenya, and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation organised the tech symposium in Nairobi.

In June, the Kenya ICT Network Board of Trustees met with senior Malaysian authorities.

A partnership was struck that will allow Kenyan enterprises to have access to Malaysia's digital expertise while Malaysian firms tap into Kenya's rapidly growing tech industry.
