Microsoft predicts strong growth for gaming in Africa
The recently concluded Xbox Game Camp Africa has been welcomed as a watershed moment in the development of the continent's gaming sector.
Microsoft organised a two-day hybrid event in Kenya, Morocco, and South Africa, bringing together Xbox industry leaders, budding game developers, and gaming fans from all around the continent to stimulate creativity and collaboration.
The primary event was organized in Nairobi, Kenya, by the Microsoft Africa Development Centre (ADC), which provided attendees with a series of hands-on workshops covering many aspects of game production such as design, storytelling, brand building, and marketing.
Irene Githinji, Education Engagements Lead at Microsoft ADC, highlighted the significance of talent development and training in the industry.
“The Xbox Game Camp offers a great opportunity for us to meet up with the Xbox team as well as game developers and see what we can do together,” she said.
“Also, with different countries taking part in the camp, we try to understand their pain points and begin to curate programs and projects that align with the industry needs.”
The Xbox Game Camp Africa aims to capitalise on the global gaming boom by fostering talent development, offering assistance, and encouraging the next generation of local game developers.
