MTN Group, Huawei unveil innovation lab in South Africa

For the 2024 edition, the programme will return to its physical form, with Huawei exposing participants to 5G technologies, cloud computing, and AI.

The additional funds will help Cameroon reach its objective of covering the country with 5,000 video surveillance cameras linked to 17 control centres, according to the government.

Mobile Telecoms Company launched its 5G trials yesterday, while Telecom Namibia unveiled over 50 3G and 4G sites.

The R&D centre will focus on 5G, artificial intelligence, data analytics, cloud computing, and digital financial services.

The spend is part of the Namibian company's turnaround strategy, which is detailed in its 2027 integrated strategic business plan.

Huawei also runs a 6-month Graduate management training programme that gives training and internships within the company to young people.

Partnerships with Seplat Oil and Gas, as well as Huawei and Baze University in Abuja, were cited as encouraging adoption of 5G by the pan-African telecom operator.

Huawei announced it has already brought connectivity to 90 million people in remote regions in nearly 80 countries following its pledge to the International Telecommunication Union's (ITU) Partner2Connect (P2C) Digital Coalition.

The parties are looking forward to further discussions, including the possibility of launching a three-phased project to install 5G connectivity on the mine campus.

Set against the backdrop of Africa Com, the continent’s largest technology conference, the event brought together more than 100 industry leaders and experts from 50+ organizations, and several media outlets.

The telecoms equipment vendor showcases some of its installations, made over the past year, across the continent.
