Zambia’s cyber security stance worries civil rights groups

Senior official confirms Cyber Security and Cyber Crime Bill as well as the Data Protection Bill have been withdrawn.

Civil society organisations say there has been a lack of consultation and the new legislation is a means of clamping down on freedom of expression.

Newly appointed Minister of Information and Broadcasting services says he has 'more important things to do'.

Government has indicated it is working on a law that will ban or regulate online media organisations.
