The Zambian government plans to advertise the process of its digital television migration project for tender, according to a senior government official.
The advertising of the tender is expected to create a transparent and competitive platform that will allow interested bidders to take part in the process, as Zambia embarks on the digital television project.
Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Amos Malupenga, said the government is opening the tender procedure.
“It is important that there is adequate time to allow for best suppliers to be engaged in undertaking digital television project on Zambia,” Malupenga said.
Malupenga is leading a delegation of senior government officials and engineers who are attending a meeting organised by Ericsson in Stockholm for Zambians to learn about digital migration.
In May this year, Malupenga led the first delegation of senior government officials and engineers to China to learn the technical and financial capabilities of Huawei Technologies Company Limited and ZTE Corporation.
The Zambian government is hopeful that it will beat the 2013 and 2015 digital migration deadlines set by the regional grouping, the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
