Rwanda unveiled the Cyber security Centre of Excellence (CyberHub) yesterday, which is going to support cyber security education and training.
The facility is envisioned as a national hub that will nurture top talent, stimulate collaboration, and enable Rwanda achieve its goal of being a regional leader in cyber security capacity building.
The National Cyber Security Authority (NCSA) went on to state that the CyberHub aspires to bring together industry leaders, major international partners, and technology providers to establish a vibrant centre.
It went on to say that these collaborations will help further develop this project, which will have a substantial beneficial influence on the cybersecurity and data protection talent and technology environment in Rwanda and beyond.
The CyberHub, located in the University of Rwanda's College of Science and Technology, has a Cyber security Academy, an Innovation Hub, and technology labs.
The inaugural ceremony, attended by members from the government, Cisco, GIZ Rwanda, and the private sector, opened with a ribbon-cutting conducted by Paula Ingabire, Minister of ICT and Innovation.
Silvia Heer, head of cooperation at the German Embassy, emphasised the fundamental relevance of digital security, stating that it is just as important to national development as roads, health care, and other core infrastructure.
She commended the CyberHub as a critical effort that increases Rwanda's ability to safeguard itself in the digital age while also establishing the country as a regional cyber security leader.
Heer further emphasised that the launch is a reflection of strong partnership and collaboration between Germany and Rwanda in advancing digital resilience.
Dima Kandalaft, Cisco's senior director, emphasised the company's commitment to Rwanda's digital transformation goal.
She stated that the CyberHub provides an essential opportunity to grow the pool of qualified cyber security experts, thereby addressing existing skills gaps and nurturing a future-ready community.
Cisco hopes that this collaboration would provide Rwanda and the wider region with the capabilities required to succeed in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
