Namibia has inaugurated the US$2 million Ondangwa digital Technology Hub, a facility designed to accelerate digital transformation, research and skills development.

Located in the north of the country, the facility will serve as a multipurpose digital centre for education, innovation, conferences and community events.

The Rössing Foundation, a corporate social investment trust, played a key role in the project, with its N$37 million (US$2.23 million) investment transforming the centre into a modern digital hub.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah presided over the unveiling of the facility on Wednesday, as well as the inauguration of the Science Exhibition Hall named after her.

She said the facility reflects the government’s commitment to investing in education, science, technology and innovation as key drivers of Namibia’s development, as well as upskilling young people for the digital economy.

“The country’s prosperity depends on its ability to empower young people with the skills, tools and opportunities they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world,” the president said.

Nandi-Ndaitwah said Namibia must not remain a consumer of technology developed elsewhere, but should nurture a new generation of innovators, creators and problem-solvers capable of driving industrialisation and economic transformation.

At the inauguration, the Foundation for the Development of Science and Technology in China donated 73 interactive science exhibition models designed to simplify complex scientific concepts and enhance learning experiences for students and visitors.

“The initiative is a valuable contribution to science education and the advancement of knowledge among Namibia’s youth,” Nandi-Ndaitwah said.

The facility was originally established in 1993 as the Rössing Foundation Centre before being renovated and renamed.

Renovation of the facility, including the Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah Science Exhibition Hall, began in January this year.

Namibia is expanding its digital infrastructure and innovation ecosystem under its National Digital Strategy (2025–2029).
