Namibia is leaning on its cyber security partnership with India.

The Namibian government has tasked key ministries to expedite initiatives aimed at tackling cyber security, as part of its ambition to accelerate the country's digital transformation.

Emma Theofelus, Minister of Information, Communication and Technology, has said this is a resolution coming from a weekly cabinet meeting, chaired by president Ndemupelila Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

Among the government's objectives is to build on a cyber security partnership agreed with India in July.

"Cabinet has directed the Department of International Relations and Trade to coordinate a suitable date for the president of the Republic of Namibia to visit India to convene the Namibia-India joint cooperation in New Delhi, before the end of 2025," Theofelus said.

She continued, "In addition, the cabinet directed all OMAs (offices, ministries and agencies) for signed MoUs (memoranda of understanding) to operationalise agreements with timelines and regular progress reports to cabinet."

"Cabinet also directed all OMAs to expedite the conclusion of pending agreements on cyber security, digital transformation, culture and small development projects."
