Zambia's second largest mobile operator MTN has launched HomePack, a set of bundles designed for home use aimed at increasing public access to the internet.
MTN head of Enterprise Business Unit Mark Townsend said the company has categorised the HomePack into four bundles, namely HomePack 10, HomePack 20, HomePack 30 and HomePack unlimited.
In a statement Townsend said the company believes that the four data bundles cater to the needs of everyone at home, from the hardworking father to a busy mother and student.
According to MTN Zambia all HomePack bundles can only be accessed through a special 4G home router provided by the operator.
"MTN is committed to growing internet access in Zambia," said Townsend. "The internet has now become a necessity and its access must be at everybody's convenience. It should not be a preserve of only a privileged few but a commodity to be accessed anywhere anytime."
He added that one of the barriers to internet access in Zambia is the prohibitive cost of devices, including smartphones, laptops and computers.
Zambia's internet penetration is at 18 % out of the country's 14 million people, according to a recent report by telecom research firm Budde Comm.
