ESET Nigeria, a global cybersecurity company, has concluded a cybersecurity awareness programme for staff of Lagos State Government ministries, departments and agencies.
The training, held at the Staff Clinic Hall in Alausa, Ikeja, under the theme "Cybersecurity in 2026: Defending Against Modern Threats in a digital Workplace", brought together government personnel for training on emerging cyber threats and incident response.
The programme forms part of efforts to strengthen cybersecurity awareness across the public sector as government services become increasingly digital .
Covering the 2026 threat landscape, the session focused on AI-driven intrusion attempts, deepfake-enabled fraud, advanced phishing, ransomware attacks, identity theft, cloud security risks and supply-chain compromise scenarios.
Participants strengthened practical defensive habits through interactive lectures, scenario-based discussions, case studies and exercises aimed at improving their ability to identify suspicious activity, reduce human error and escalate incidents correctly within workplace workflows.
Olabanji Soledayo, strategic partnership manager at ESET Nigeria, said employee awareness remains a first line of defence, particularly against social engineering and identity-based attacks that bypass technical controls.
He also commended the Lagos State Government for its partnership with ESET in delivering the training.
The programme also featured technical sessions on email security hardening, endpoint protection, ransomware defence techniques, threat detection concepts and cybersecurity practices tailored to government operations.
Kadri Shamusideen, deputy director at the Lagos State Ministry of Science and Technology, described the initiative as timely, saying that while technology provides security controls, staff remain the operational layer responsible for detecting, reporting and mitigating attacks.
ESET said the training aligns with its commitment to supporting cybersecurity awareness, education and resilience initiatives across Nigeria.
