The Kenya Presidential Digital Talent Programme (PDTP) 9th cohort graduation took place yesterday at the University of Nairobi, bringing together 400 students who successfully completed a Huawei training and certification program.
The initiative, which is spearheaded by the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy and implemented by the ICT Authority in collaboration with Huawei Technologies, aims to bridge the critical gap between academic learning and practical technical experience.
During the ceremony, ICT and Digital Economy principal secretary John Tanui, accompanied by Mary Kerema, secretary for ICT, E-Government and Digital Economy, and ICT Authority acting CEO Zilpher Owiti, shared insights on the PDTP's early successes and ongoing impact, which has trained over 3,300 youth since its inception in 2014.
Tanui emphasised that this group of graduates is entering the workforce at an important moment for Kenya's digital economy, as global demand for tech professionals reaches an all-time high.
He encouraged the graduates to regard themselves not only as job seekers but as the generation destined to influence Kenya’s digital future – by generating innovative solutions, launching start-ups, and competing in the global tech economy.
In a statement, the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy stated: “The Cohort exemplifies how investing in youth and cultivating tech skills like networking, cybersecurity, AI, and software development through strong public-private partnerships is accelerating Kenya’s digital transformation.”
