Kenya and the UK are advancing talks to strengthen cybersecurity governance frameworks, technical capacity, and real-time cyber-threat intelligence sharing.
This is according to John Tanui, principal secretary for ICT and the digital Economy, following a bilateral meeting in Nairobi between Kenyan officials and a delegation from the British High Commission.
The partnership will focus on supporting Kenya's establishment of a dedicated national cybersecurity agency through technical cooperation with the UK National Cyber Security Centre, said Tanui.
The delegation also addressed the integration of artificial intelligence into security operations, specifically regarding tools for countering misinformation and disinformation.
The British delegation was led by Dr Ed Barnett, deputy high commissioner to Kenya, alongside Colin Sykes, head of science, innovation and technology, and Clarian Makungu, Africa cyber project manager at the British High Commission.
Stephen Isaboke, principal secretary for broadcasting and telecommunications, attended the meeting alongside Bernard Rotich, acting secretary for digital government, and John Kiria, director for partnerships at Kenya's state department for ICT.
The bilateral engagement falls under the UK-Kenya Strategic Partnership, which re-anchored cyber-threat collaboration through a formal security framework.
