Kenya and France yesterday signed a landmark cooperation agreement on financing to increase internet access to households, public facilities, and digital hubs under the Kenya Digital Transformation and Connectivity Enhancement Project.
The agreement, witnessed by President William Ruto and President Emmanuel Macron, reaffirms the two nations’ shared commitment to accelerating digital transformation, inclusive connectivity, the expansion of digital infrastructure, and the establishment of community digital hubs across Kenya, said John Tanui, Kenya’s principal secretary for the State Department for Information and Communication Technology and the Digital Economy.
The partnership, he said, marks another significant milestone in strengthening Kenya–France cooperation in ICT, innovation, digital skills development, and the creation of opportunities through connected digital ecosystems.
The deal is among 11 cooperation agreements signed in Nairobi between the two governments, witnessed by President Emmanuel Macron of France and President William Ruto of Kenya.
Tanui noted that the two countries had maintained strong diplomatic relations since 1963, the year Kenya gained independence from Britain.
“We continue to deepen this partnership in areas of shared interest for the benefit of the people of both nations,” he assured.
The signing of the agreements was held under the theme: “Enhancing Kenya–France Strategic Partnership for Shared Prosperity.”
Other agreements covered sectors such as agriculture, meteorological services, port infrastructure, as well as the blue economy and fisheries.
