Kenya has made a huge step forward in tackling cyber-crime by providing young people with the essential digital skills; over 1,000 students graduated yesterday.

They graduated as part of the Cyber Shujaa project, a government-private sector collaboration to equip young people with digital skills. It was the fifth graduation of the project.

Immaculate Kassait, data commissioner, presided over the graduation ceremony.

The students graduated with expertise in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and cyber security, among other things.

Kassait praised the initiative for identifying the next generation of cyber security experts.

She said: "The initiative is key in strengthening Kenya’s digital resilience and protecting personal data in an increasingly connected world. You (graduates) are the guardians of our future. The skills and values you carry will safeguard organisations and protect the rights of individuals in the digital space."
