Kenya is increasing its focus on developing homegrown talent to tackle evolving digital threats and build a resilient digital economy.

This follows the successful conclusion of Cybergames 2026, the country’s premier cyber security competition, which ran for two months.

Slovakia’s Foreign Minister attended, highlighting strengthening cooperation between Kenya and Slovakia in the areas of digital transformation, cyber security, digital infrastructure and emerging technologies.

Stephen Isaboke, Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, on Wednesday presided over the event, which over several weeks drew participants from universities, government institutions, the private sector and the innovation ecosystem.

Competitors were tested across domains including cryptography, digital forensics, malware analysis, offensive security and open-source intelligence.

“The knowledge and experience gained through this competition will contribute significantly to strengthening our national cyber capacity,” Isaboke said in Nairobi.

The Cybergames concluded at the Kenya School of Government.

Isaboke noted that as cyber threats continue to grow in scale and sophistication, Kenya needs highly skilled professionals to protect critical information infrastructure, secure digital services and safeguard citizens and businesses.

“Cybergames is helping Kenya build that workforce. We recognise that technology alone cannot secure cyberspace. People remain our most important line of defence,” he said.

Isaboke assured that government and its partners continue to strengthen cyber security governance frameworks, improve cyber incident response capabilities, protect critical infrastructure, enhance public awareness and promote international cooperation on cyber security matters.

Juraj Blanár, Slovakia’s Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, attended the event in Nairobi.

The two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding on digital and cyber security cooperation on Tuesday during the Kenya–Slovakia Business and Development Forum.
