Kenya is preparing its youth with the necessary digital skills to address service delivery challenges in the East African country.
This is part of the Innovate254 hackathon, the main event of the Devolution Conference 2025 Delegates Experience Programme.
The hackathon brought together around 100 young developers from all over the country in Ruma National Park in Homa Bay county.
Gladys Wanga, governor of Homa Bay, and John Tanui, principal secretary of the State Department for ICT and Digital Economy, launched the event together.
The hackathon is taking place this week.
Governors Wavinya Ndeti and Wisley Rotich of Machakos and Elgeyo Marakwet counties, respectively, attended the launch on Sunday, as did Homa Bay Senator Joyce Atieno OsogoBensuda.
"This is more than a competition," Tanui said. "It is a fusion of devolution and digital innovation, shaping the future of governance and inclusive development in Kenya."
Wanga encouraged the youth to build practical tech solutions to local challenges.
"The Devolution Conference is a transformative platform for youth inclusion and empowerment," she added.
