Kenya is expanding access to technology and skills to create jobs by establishing digital hubs across the country.
Currently, over 300 digital hubs are operating, supported by over 20,000 devices. A timeline has been established to ensure that 101 completed hubs are equipped, operating, and staffed within two months.
In addition, 199 hubs are now under construction in 22 constituencies. These will be equipped and opened on a first-completed, first-equipped basis.
William Kabogo Gitau, cabinet secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy, revealed the details yesterday during a joint sitting of the National Assembly Committee on Communication, Information, and Innovation to present progress on the Digital Hubs Project.
He outlined the progress and the challenges that have affected the implementation of the programme and the measures undertaken to address them.
In a statement, the Ministry of Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy said: “The cabinet secretary acknowledged the support received from Members of Parliament.
"To speed up implementation, the Ministry is implementing measures to address gaps in project execution, including streamlining coordination among the agencies involved in implementation of this important program. “
