Huawei has launched its Agentic AI Cloud in Nigeria, positioning locally hosted cloud infrastructure as a foundation for faster adoption of artificial intelligence across finance, telecommunications, government, internet services and other enterprise sectors.
The solutions were unveiled at the Huawei Nigeria AI & Cloud Summit in Lagos on 27 August, where government officials, industry stakeholders and technology partners discussed Nigeria’s AI ambitions.
Huawei said its local cloud infrastructure combines data residency, security, regulatory compliance and low-latency computing to help organisations develop and deploy AI agents closer to their operations and data.
The launch comes as Nigeria seeks to build the infrastructure, skills and regulatory frameworks needed to expand AI adoption while maintaining greater control over data generated in the country.
Lagos State deputy governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat said AI readiness extends beyond advanced models, requiring reliable connectivity, cloud infrastructure, secure data, digital talent and collaboration.
Hamzat said Lagos wants to become not only a market for emerging technologies but also a platform for innovation, solution testing and large-scale deployment.
NITDA director-general and CEO Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi similarly highlighted infrastructure, data, talent, funding, governance and partnerships as critical to Nigeria’s AI ambitions.
He said the National Sovereign Cloud Initiative is aimed at creating a secure and competitive ecosystem capable of attracting investment and positioning Nigeria as an African hub for AI and cloud innovation.
Huawei Nigeria CEO Austin You said the continent's most populous country has the foundation to lead Africa’s AI development, while Roc Bai, managing director of Huawei Cloud Business Nigeria, said the company’s local infrastructure could help organisations transform local data and industry knowledge into practical AI applications.
The launch builds on Huawei Cloud’s expansion in Nigeria. The company launched its first hyperscale local cloud in 2024 and expanded its industry-focused cloud services in 2025.
With Agentic AI Cloud, Huawei is now moving beyond data hosting and cloud services to position its infrastructure as a platform for deploying AI agents and intelligent business applications.
