Huawei Kenya kicked off Cyber Week Africa 2025 yesterday with a high-level continental discussion on the theme "Compliance by Design: Securing Africa's digital Future."
The conference, organised by the Kenya School of Government in association with the Ministry of ICT, the National Computer and Cybercrime Coordination Committee, Cyberproglobal, and Huawei, highlighted the critical need for cross-sector collaboration to protect Africa's digital environment.
Representing the private sector, Samuel Cheng, Huawei Kenya Enterprise Business managing director, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to building secure, future-ready digital systems and expanding local cybersecurity capacity.
“As an industry, we must ensure that our networks and systems are resilient and secure. As a critical provider of such networks and systems, Huawei is firmly committed to ensuring that our solutions are secure and to developing leading network security solutions,” said Cheng.
William Gitau, cabinet secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, led the Kenyan government delegation at the Cyber Week Africa.
He said the East African country had embraced various safety mechanisms and policies to cushion the nation against cyber threats such as data theft, artificial-intelligence driven intrusion, phishing and ransomware.
“Together in unity and collaboration, Africa has what it takes to build an advanced digital ecosystem with impactful digital sovereignty, prioritising cybersecurity as a central pillar of development,” Gitau added.
