Prepaid subscribers on Zimbabwe’s second largest mobile network, Telecel, are able to partially browse Facebook for free thanks to a promotion offer.

Telecel says in a press statement that this promotion can be accessed via the Facebook Zero website (zero.facebook.com) and that it is supported on browsers such as Opera Mini.

But Telecel notes that not all aspects of the promotion are free.

“Subscribers are not charged for any text but will be charged for images, video clips and third party sites they choose to view,” Telecel notes in a statement.

“These will be charged at 11 cents per megabyte or at the data bundle rate for subscribers who subscribe to data bundles.

“A warning message will appear before accessing content that is not free,” says Telecel.

Telecel goes on to add that Facebook Zero is not supported on browsers or devices that proxy traffic, such as Blackberry and Nokia Ovi browsers.

“Subscribers using these browsers can download the free Opera Mini browser and immediately gain access to Telecel Facebook Zero,” says the company.

Telecel is Zimbabwe’s second largest mobile operator with over 2.5 million subscribers.
