South African low-cost airline FlySafair has delved into the field of artificial intelligence (AI) by introducing Lindi, a travel assistant aimed to improve customer experience through technology.

Lindi, an AI-powered system developed by global tech business Stubber, can already book flights for a single passenger, change a name or seat, and offer specific trip details.

The company says that the launch capitalises on the global AI trend in which AI assistants are increasingly being integrated into apps and digital solutions to transform various industries, including healthcare, banking, manufacturing, and retail, benefiting both individuals and businesses.

According to FlySafair, customers can contact Lindi via WhatsApp 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for more convenient, faster, and simpler assistance with their travel needs.

“Our ambition at FlySafair has always been to provide an affordable, hassle-free, and punctual flying experience, AI and Lindi provide an opportunity to offer what is effectively a free private travel assistant to each customer at scale. We are excited about building on her potential to enhance our customer services,” said Kirby Gordon, chief marketing officer at FlySafair.

Guy Duncan, MD of Stubber, added: “Lindi is a testament to the potential of AI in delivering exceptional customer service and next-level Business Process Automation.”
