Kenya is enhancing its digital infrastructure partnership with Chinese networking equipment provider FiberHome, with early preparations for future 6G capabilities among its focus areas.
"As ICT networks evolve towards satellite connectivity, all-optical networks, intelligent computing, quantum-safe technologies and the journey towards 6G, Kenya remains committed to embracing innovation that strengthens our digital infrastructure and supports our digital economy,” says Stephen Isaboke, principal secretary for broadcasting and telecommunications in Kenya's Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy.
Speaking at the Nairobi leg of the FiberHome World Tour, Isaboke says Kenya remains committed to strategic partnerships that enable the country to keep pace with the rapid evolution of information and communication technology.
Isaboke adds that through initiatives such as specialised training for Kenyan students and plans for an East Africa research and development centre, the partnership is helping build local capacity in areas including artificial intelligence, smart computing, digitisation and satellite communications.
"Kenya welcomes investments and partnerships that build local talent, advance technology and position the country as a leading digital hub in Africa."
He adds that continued investment in the country's digital ecosystem contributes directly to connectivity, job creation, skills development and local innovation.
Established in 1999, Wuhan-headquartered FiberHome began operations in Kenya in 2017.
The global technology provider has worked with government agencies and local companies to deploy fibre-optic infrastructure, including key segments of the country's 100,000-kilometre "Digital Superhighway" project.
