Dan Kwach has returned to Kenya’s tech ecosystem following his appointment as executive for AI Data Centres at Cassava Technologies, under its Africa Data Centres (ADC) subsidiary.

According to Kwach’s LinkedIn announcement, his new mandate centres on building and operating specialised AI infrastructure across the continent.

Unlike traditional cloud hosting, AI-ready data centres require higher power density, advanced liquid cooling systems and specialised high-performance graphics processing unit compute capacity.

This infrastructure is becoming increasingly important as African enterprises seek to process data and AI workloads closer to where they are generated and used.

Kwach returns to Nairobi following a stint in Madagascar with STELLARIX, an AXIAN Telecom subsidiary providing carrier-neutral Tier III data centre and cloud services.

Prior to STELLARIX, Kwach spent over a decade with ADC, leading operational development.

Reflecting on his time in Madagascar, Kwach said technology deployment across the continent must align directly with core economic priorities.

“The challenges remain the same, and Tech for Good must align to Africa’s socio-economic priorities in enabling and spurring growth in the enterprise sector,” said Kwach. “We must ensure innovation and sustainability go hand in hand, that security and business resilience remain top of mind, while supporting continental and global trade at scale, creating jobs, and increasing overall productivity and efficiency.”

His appointment comes as demand for high-performance computing capacity grows, raising questions around latency, digital sovereignty and infrastructure access across the African continent.

“One thing is for sure, we either get a seat at the table when this assessment is happening, or we will be on the menu as a continent,” said Kwach.
