Global networking firm Cisco announced on Tuesday that David Mphelo has been appointed as its executive director for its public sector business in South Africa.

Cisco says Mphelo is expected to ensure that Cisco has an in-depth understanding of government’s needs and that the company is aligned with South Africa’s key priority areas.

Meanwhile, Mphelo says Cisco has a role to play across government’s five key challenges: education, health, creating decent work, the fight against crime and rural development.

Mphelo has experience in developing and implementing competitive marketing and sales strategies to drive business growth. His career also spans across multiple industries including: banking, mining, government, telecommunications, security, retail and petroleum.

His IT roles have included software development, systems engineering and architecture, business analysis, project management, account management and business development, at companies such as HP, Microsoft, Unisys and Avanade.

Mphelo holds a BSc. Comp Sc. from the University of the North, a BSc. (Hons) Comp Sc. from WITS and has completed the Harvard Business School’s Senior Executive Programme.
