Cassava Technologies has formed a strategic partnership with STANLIB Infrastructure Investments to drive the expansion and development of artificial intelligence (AI)-ready infrastructure in South Africa.

According to the pan-African technology group, the backing from the investor will accelerate the rapid expansion of Africa Data Centres' (ADC) footprint in South Africa, a business unit of Cassava.

The AI-enabled data centres will be located across ADC’s campuses in Johannesburg and Cape Town, supporting the growing demand for digital infrastructure in the country.

Andy Louw, co-head at STANLIB Infrastructure Investments emphasised that data centres are critical infrastructure for the modern economy, and that the investment will strengthen the Southern African nation’s digital backbone, enabling ADC to contribute meaningfully to the country’s growth.

He went on to say that the initiative aligns with the company’s desire to be an economic enabler for the South African economy by deploying capital that drives growth while giving institutional investors differentiated access to a unique asset class.

Hardy Pemhiwa, president and group CEO of Cassava Technologies added: “Partnering with STANLIB strengthens our South African operations and validates the robust foundation we've built.

"It provides us the scale required to serve major hyperscalers and enterprises as they rapidly increase their demand for secure, high-capacity connectivity and cloud services across the region.”
