Airtel Malawi has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating Malawi's digital transformation through continued investment in advanced telecommunications infrastructure, digital services and connectivity expansion following a visit by the newly appointed Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) board.

MACRA visited Airtel Malawi's head office in Lilongwe recently, as part of the regulator's ongoing programme to engage licensed telecommunications operators and gain insight into developments shaping the country's digital economy.

Airtel Malawi executives briefed the board on the company's operations, technological investments, achievements and challenges, with discussions focusing on network expansion, digital innovation, customer experience and regulatory collaboration.

Airtel Malawi MD Aashish Dutt said, "We value the strong and collaborative relationship we share with MACRA. As partners in Malawi's digital journey, we remain committed to investing in innovative technologies, expanding connectivity, and supporting the Malawi 2063 vision of a digitally inclusive and empowered nation.”

The company highlighted ongoing investments in 5G network expansion, rural connectivity projects and digital service enhancements aimed at increasing access to digital platforms and supporting economic growth.

According to Airtel, these investments are aligned with Malawi 2063 priorities, which identify digitalisation as a key enabler of socio-economic development, improved service delivery and increased productivity across sectors.

The MACRA board said Airtel Malawi's continued investment in telecommunications infrastructure and digital services is helping to bridge the country's digital divide.

The board also stressed the need for continued cooperation between regulators and industry players to foster a secure, competitive and innovation-driven communications sector capable of meeting growing demand for digital services.
