Malawian start-up promises to use AI to ease editorial duties

Malawian media start-up iHub has created AiDitor, a semi-automated editorial work app.

Using OpenAI's ChatGPT-4 and DALLE-E models, the app also generates graphics and photos automatically.

AiDitor App, which is slated to be released in November, promises to improve news text by reviewing and enhancing grammar, clarity, style, legality, and ethics, according to its creator, iHub founder Mallick Mnela.

"Although creating images and illustrations might, in the long run, replace jobs like some illustrators and cartoonists, some of us couldn't afford them anyway due to budget constraints," Mnela, the company's founder, said.

Mnela demonstrated the app's features and posted the results to his Facebook page. By using stories from other news websites, he was able to analyse its editorial abilities.

Mnela, a media professional and computer enthusiast, became interested in artificial intelligence around the year 2020.

Lack of skills and resources pushed him to study more about technology, and things started to change in December 2020 when he started learning to code with ChatGPT.

He debuted his first creation, a WhatsApp chatbot, in February 2021. Since then, he has never looked back.
