MDXi, a subsidiary of MainOne, a data centre company in West Africa, will be rebranded as Equinix next month.

MainOne is already an Equinix company, which is also a connectivity solutions provider with presence in Nigeria, Ghana, and Côte d'Ivoire.

The company's assets include four active data centers and a 7,000-kilometer submarine network that connects Portugal to Lagos, Accra, and the West African coast, with landing stations in Nigeria, Ghana, and Côte d'Ivoire.

Announcing the changes yesterday, MDXi said to streamline its communication and provide a 'seamless user experience' it will be moving its social media communications to Equinix as of 21st October 2024.

MDXi, which was founded in 2015, has helped to enhance the digital economy in West African countries such as Nigeria by providing connectivity solutions.

The business stated that transitioning to Nasdaq-listed Equinix, which operates in over 70 markets across 33 countries, including Africa, will deliver a more cohesive experience for clients.

Also, MDXi will now have access to latest technology, experience, and operational efficiency of Equinix that will help it strengthen its service offerings and infrastructure.

The rebranding is also expected to bring new service offerings, such as improved cloud services, edge computing, and digital ecosystems that cater to the evolving needs of African businesses.

Equinix, founded in Silicon Valley in 1998 is now led by Adaire Fox-Martin, who took over as CEO in March. In April 2022, the US-based business embraced the continent by acquiring MainOne.

Equinix paid $320 million for MainOne, which has operations in Nigeria, Ghana, and Cote d'Ivoire, signalling the start of the company's African growth strategy.
