MTN and Uganda's Capital Markets Authority (CMA) are exploring potential partnerships to increase investment in the East African country.

The initiative is expected to raise public knowledge of the capital markets, which are often considered as restricted to the privileged, according to the two parties.

On Tuesday, the CMA hosted a delegation from the country's largest mobile network operator, MTN, led by Sylvia Mulinge, CEO.

While little information was offered about how the relationship will finally work, executives from both organisations acknowledged that they had engaged in productive discussions on regulatory and development issues.

"Exciting prospects lie ahead as we work together to empower more Ugandans with knowledge and opportunities," said CMA CEO Josephine Okui Ossiya.

MTN shared Ossiya's thoughts, saying: "As we collaborate to provide more Ugandans with opportunities in the capital markets space. We look forward to continuing our relationship and making progress together."
