Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu puts his weight behind the Ounje Eko food discount initiative.

PalmPay, a fintech platform in Nigeria, has joined forces with the Lagos state government to provide payment solutions for ‘Ounje Eko’, a weekly food discount market initiative.

This collaboration aims to enable residents and businesses to take advantage of the Food Discount Market initiative, which, it is hoped, will help to bridge the effect of the country’s current surging inflation.

Ounje Eko uses a QR-code-based payments and collections solution, powered by the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), on-behalf of the financial services industry.

Ounje Eko, meaning ‘Lagos Food’, is a food intervention programme spearheaded by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, aimed at extending relief and support to the residents of Lagos.

The initiative operates in 27 locations in Ikeja, six in Lagos Island, nine in Ikorodu, five in Epe, and 10 in Badagry division, covering five divisions of the state.

Enakeno Umuteme, head, marketing communications, PalmPay, said in a statement that partnering with the Lagos state government to bolster its agricultural initiative with payment solutions will help to empower residents and businesses with the necessary financial tools.

Umuteme said that Ounje Eko is a laudable initiative that is helping to bridge the effect of surging inflation.
