ASUS wants bigger market share in Kenya
Computer maker ASUS has launched more products into the Kenyan personal computer (PC) market, and is aiming to have a bigger share.
The Taiwanese headquartered firm, which launched the Transformer T300chi (notebook) and the Zenbook UX305 (Ultrabook) says it aims to capture users who value mobility.
The Transformer T300i notebook is a hybrid device that will appeal to customers with its 1.26 cm thickness, touch screen and will retail at Kshs 119,999 ($1,200), says the company.
Meanwhile, the Zenbook Ux305 which has 12.3mm thickness and 8GB RAM will retail at Kshs 99,999 ($1,000).
Alvin Huang, ASUS Pan-African manager said, “We are regularly producing innovative and more differentiated products that match the current technological trends. Our products also fit with today's consumers needs who would want to multi task whilst having the convenience of mobility.”
According to the latest stats from the International Data Corporation (IDC) in 2014 East Africa’s PC market saw a reduction in PC shipments by 10% from 736,869 units recorded in 2013 to 657,472 units in 2014.
"While most market players experienced growing business across East Africa in 2014, the decision to end production of cheap mini notebooks pushed the overall numbers down," James Mutua, a research analyst at IDC East Africa said.
The IDC report revealed that there lacked a level entry gadgets for the East African market.
